Preview The First 7 Minutes of Speed Racer Right Here
Written on May 8, 2008 by Vic Holtreman
Ok, folks... here's your chance to get a real taste of what Speed Racer will be like before you decide whether to plunk down your hard earned money for a ticket.
I'm not going to tell you what I think until I see a few of your reactions below. BTW, I will be adding my two cents to the list of Speed Racer reviews some time this weekend. I wanted my first viewing of it to be in IMAX so I didn't catch a pre-screening of the film.
Knights Templar Vs... Vampires!
Written on May 8, 2008 by Niall Browne
I think that it's well know around these parts that I'm a big Indiana Jones fan. What isn't so well known is that I have a strong affinity to Dr. Jones for a strange reason: My Dad, much like Henry Jones Sr. has a bizarre obsession with the Holy Grail.
It's been something that has been in my family for years, and I have to admit that I have even been to France on my own Grail quest... well kind of.
The Da Vinci Code was required reading for my family (even though the theories presented within it weren't new) and the film was a great disappointment to me and my entire family. So anything Knights Templar-related (National Treasure included) is a must-see for me and my family. So the Browne clan is now very excited about the forthcoming Universal Pictures film that will put a horror spin on this famed and legendary order.
Adam Torchia and Justin Stanley have just sold a script with the title The Knights Templar that has the follwoing plot:
Is Matthew Vaughn Off Thor?
Written on May 8, 2008 by Jamie Williams
First, Marvel Films announced their entire slate of projects for the next three years. Among the films included Thor coming summer 2010 - June 4, 2010 to be specific.
And now comes word that director Matthew Vaughn (i.e. behind last year's Stardust and the original director for X-Men: The Last Stand) is off the film.
To be honest, I'm surprised this film is going to see the light of day to begin with.
Thor's basically known by the general public for having a big-ass hammer and appearing in Chris Columbus' 1987 comedy Adventures in Babysitting.
Go G.I. Joe Pictures!
Written on May 8, 2008 by Niall Browne
There was a time when I wasn't interested in the G.I. Joe movie. I used to play with the action figures when I was a kid, but it was Ireland in the 1980's and they were known as Action Force, but I didn't hold any excitement for this film.
Then Stephen Sommers signed on. I really love Deep Rising, and I hold a certain respect for The Mummy movies, but he lost me with Van Helsing. It's not that I loathe the film, it's just that it was a wasted opportunity. A huge wated opportunity.
However, I'm a big fan of Dennis Quaid, there's something about the movies that he's made in the last decade or so that elevate him into the "must watch" priorty list.
In the last day or so a barrage of G.I Joe character pictures have bombarded the net...and they look quite cool. With great thanks to Collider and one of our wonderful regular readers "Scott" for the heads-up on these fantastic images!
How Will Iron Man And Speed Racer Do This Weekend?
Written on May 8, 2008 by Vic Holtreman
Last week I wrote that I thought it was a ridiculous theory that the release of the Grand Theft Auto IV video game would hurt Iron Man's box office numbers. Instead I wondered whether the release of Speed Racer during the second weekend of the armored avenger's run would put a dent in Tony Stark's armor.
Well it looks like he'll be holding up pretty well against the race car flick as well.
Uh Oh - Hancock is 'Surprisingly Sexual And Violent?'
Written on May 7, 2008 by Vic Holtreman
Today is an interesting news day for Sony Pictures' upcoming entry into the summer blockbuster arena: Hancock. I was first tipped off to the actual tone of the film by my pal over at Movies Online, and then received further clarification after reading a post over at /Film.
So what's so interesting?
This movie is not what you think it is, folks. Think it's another light-hearted, funny Will Smith romp?
Think again.
First Twilight Trailer Features Creepy Pale People
Written on May 7, 2008 by Vic Holtreman
Below you can watch the first trailer for a vampire movie called Twilight. The film is based on what I've heard is an outrageously popular book series that's got sort of a teen romantic vampire goth vibe to it.
What, you've never heard of it? Well apparently millions of teenage girls have and they love the books, so this movie is going to make HUGE bank is my guess.
Marvel Superhero Movies Through 2011!
Written on May 5, 2008 by Jamie Williams
After the huge opening weekend of Iron Man, nobody should be surprised to hear a Shellhead sequel has been greenlit for a summer 2010 release - April 30, 2010 to be exact.
No, ladies and germs, the surprise is that Marvel Films has come outright and announced their entire slate of projects from now to 2011.
Terminator 4: Prepare For Another R to PG-13 Outcry
Written on May 5, 2008 by Niall Browne
Every time I hear something new about Terminator 4, I change my mind about the film.
McG = Bad
Christian Bale = Good
No Arnold Schwarzenegger = Bad
Paul Haggis scripting = Good
PG-13 rating = Bad
Some days it's good news, other days it's bad. This movie is making me schizophrenic.
Today is a bad day. It has been announced that Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins will be rated... PG-13. This will be the first time that a film in the franchise hasn't had an R rating.
The reason?
Money, of course!
The Dark Knight: You Might Want To Leave The Kids At Home
Written on May 5, 2008 by Niall Browne
Now that we have seen the second trailer, which is awesome, we can now begin to wildly speculate about what Aarom Eckhart will look like as Two-Face in The Dark Knight.
We've seen as brief glimpse in the latest trailer, but what will Harvey Dent look like once he has been transformed into the two-faced bad guy?
No idea, but Eckhart spoke with LA Times and he gave us some ideas on what to expect.
The result? By the sound of it, don't have your dinner before you go to see The Dark Knight.
Iron Man (Nearly) Invincible At The Box Office
Written on May 5, 2008 by Vic Holtreman
"B-list superhero"?
"Grand Theft Auto IV"?
I say to you: "HA!"
Iron Man had the 10th biggest box office opening weekend, EVER (and that's not even including the Thursday sneak preview showings). It topped $100 million on this past weekend.
It kicked butt on every level. Audiences loved it, Rotten Tomatoes has it 94% positive and the per screen average was over $24,000 (which means you can't attribute the boffo box office to just the fact it was released on a gazillion screens).
In addition it's opening weeked grosses were double that of both Batman Begins and Superman Returns, plus it earned more than Spider-Man 2 and the first two X-Men movies on their opening weekends.
Maybe the next time I tell you a movie is going to be awesome month after month after month prior to its release, you'll pay attention, eh? :-)

The Brand New Dark Knight Trailer Is Here!
Written on May 4, 2008 by Vic Holtreman
All righty then... the new Harvey Dent-centric trailer that we all expected to see on Monday is available to you right here today.
The viral campaign for this is quite interesting. It's more than the "Easter egg hunt" that was Cloverfield - this one has been designed to actually give us some insight into the mind of the Joker. The latest example, where everyone thought the trailer would premiere almost a week ago shows what an obnoxious character he really is, not caring about jerking around the fanbase for the film.
Or am I reading too much into this? :-)
Anyway, check out the latest trailer for The Dark Knight below.
Rosenbaum Leaves Smallville, Will The Show Get Even Worse?
Written on May 3, 2008 by Bruce SimmonsSubtitle: And I see the light about The CW.
It's officially been reported that Michael Rosenbaum, who portrays Clark Kent's nemesis Lex Luthor on CW's Smallville, has left the show. The character is going to be replaced by two new baddies. But more on that a little bit later.
He posted the following on his website:
"It is time for me to start the next chapter of my life and career," Rosenbaum said. "I hope that I gave you some enjoyment over the years and that you found my portrayal of Lex Luthor to be satisfying."
In that same post, he stated that the executive production team from Smallville hinted at the idea that Lex may show up in season eight.
They go into a little detail on the replacement characters that will fill the evil void that Lex Luthor is leaving behind. One is a dangerously sinister female villain "whose attraction with Clark may prove to be as deadly as kryptonite for him." They don't specify anything else about her, but the second nemesis they announced is... Doomsday.
Final Indiana Jones & The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull Trailer
Written on May 3, 2008 by Vic Holtreman
At the Iron Man screening(s) I attended the new (and presumably, final) trailer for Indiana Jones & The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull was shown, and I have to admit that I'm finally getting excited about this film. I just really hope that Spielberg and Lucas manage to re-capture the spirit of the original. The trailer at least, seems to do so.
Check out the brand new trailer below and see for yourself.
